I'd heard of Saints of yesteryear;

                                            How they prevailed, and wrought with fear

                                    To quench the violence of flames,

                                            And yield to Him all earthly claims.

                                    I cannot doubt such grace exists

                                            For all whose lives the Son has kissed.

                                    But does it reach to me?, I thought,

                                            Just how much has my Savior bought?

                                    "I bought it all.", I heard Him say.

                                            "I paid the price none else could pay.

                                    "So grace could reach as far as Hell,

                                            "So sin's rebellion I might quell."

                                    Oh, Grace of God that lets me see

                                            That faith prevails there on the Tree!

                                    It's there alone that faith prevails;

                                            Where Love constrains in place of nails!

                                    That Matchless Love would not come down.

                                            The Tree, by Love, to Him was bound.

                                    And now that Love holds me there, too.

                                            It is His grace which makes me true.

                                    With Christ I have been crucified:

                                            There on the Tree, with Him, I died.

                                    He loosed me from the grip of sin,

                                            Because He is my next-of-kin.

                                    I ask no strength but His alone.

                                            I do disdain and fear my own.

                                    I look to Him with faith and fear;

                                            As did the Saints of yesteryear.
