(IN PLACE OF BOSOM-DWELLING)

I offered the Lord a Cumquat.

He gave it right back with a frown.

My feelings were injured somewhat.

I'd thought He'd have given a crown.

I offered an orange to the Master.

The orange, He gave back to me, too.

I held tight, my box alabaster.

Perhaps I could donate a pew.

I offered Him beets and tomatoes.

But all met the same kind of fate.

He wouldn't receive my potatoes!

Though I offered Him crate after crate.

"I'm not after efforts or service.

"I'm not after all you can do.

"I'm not after that sort of worship.

"What I really am after is you!

"Don't offer Me flesh...good or evil!

"Don't offer Me what you can do!

"For only this one thing is needful;

"That you offer to Me all of you!

"Come offer by faith as did Abel;

"The offering of Cain won't suffice.

"Don't offer the offering of Babel.

"Come offer a live sacrifice.

"Of Flesh I'll accept only ashes.

"But beauty for ashes I'll give!

"So today, before the day passes,

"Come die in My Presence and live!

"Come let Me shatter your spirit.

"Come and be broken for Me.

"I call unto all who can hear it;

"Come and be truly set free!"
